Bryan Jonson:
The Man who might Live Forever
The longer I live, the more beautiful life becomes.
In a thought experiment about the future, the consensus is clear: technology will undoubtedly be better in 20 years. We may disagree on specifics like the arrival of Artificial Intelligence or the presence of Nanobots, but the underlying assumption is progress. However, when we turn the spotlight on ourselves, the assumption shifts. The prevailing notion is one of inevitable decay, decline, and the journey towards death, with the only question being how much we can slow it down.
But what if, like technology, we could put ourselves on an improvement curve? This intriguing question is at the heart of entrepreneur and philanthropist Bryan Johnson's mission - a mission to not just extend life but to reverse the aging process and achieve immortality.
Bryan Johnson, known for founding Braintree and selling it for $800 million in 2012, has redirected his focus to the field of longevity research. Armed with a team of 30 doctors and a $100 million budget, Johnson is committed to unraveling the mysteries of aging and finding ways to disrupt the conventional trajectory of human life.
Bryan has tracked hundreds of health markers to monitor his progress, and these markers show that he has achieved many health markers that are typically associated with much younger people. He has reduced his biological age by an estimated 23 years.
But what if we don't have millions or access to advanced tech?
The good news is, you can starts with simple steps.
Don’t Self Destruct: Quitting smoking and limiting alcohol intake are among the self-destructive behaviors. These habits not only have detrimental effects on physical health but also contribute to premature aging.
Sleep is King: Align with Johnson's emphasis on sleep. Aim for 7-8 hours nightly. Establish a relaxing bedtime routine, create a sleep-conducive environment, and avoid screens before bed.
Fuel Your Body Wisely: Ditch the processed junk and refined sugars. Embrace whole, unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Explore resources like Michael Pollan's "In Defense of Food" or the Dietary Guidelines for Americans for guidance.
Move Your Body: Regular physical activity combats numerous health risks and boosts longevity. Find activities you enjoy, be it brisk walking, dancing, swimming, or team sports. Aim for at least 30 minutes most days of the week. Check out the free workout routines on the American Council on Exercise website.
Manage Stress: Chronic stress wreaks havoc on your health. Practice relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing. Consider mindfulness apps like Headspace or Calm for guided exercises.
Connect with Others: Strong social connections contribute to well-being and longevity. Nurture existing relationships and build new ones. Join clubs, volunteer, or simply make time for loved ones.
Some of my Stories:
Johnson's quest might seem extreme, but the underlying message resonates: embrace innovation, stay curious, and actively seek improvement.
